Dear Family:
I have written to you before of the master chef and the big fish story. At
each of those writings I thought I had exhausted these verses but not so. We
never seem to be able to exhaust the word. That is why God's word is so alive, up
to date, inexhaustible.
John 21:9-14 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals
there, and fish laid thereon, and bread Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish
which ye have now caught. Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of
great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many,
yet was not the net broken. Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of
the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord Jesus
then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. This is now
the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was
risen from the dead. (KJV)
Not only did Christ perform the miracle of filling the nets with a big catch,
He prevented the nets from breaking. He prepared fish and bread for breakfast and
said, "Come and dine". This invitation is given to us moment by moment
and day by day to come be filled with His spirit, surrounded by His love and
supported by His strength. He told the woman at the well she would never thirst
again and his disciples that those who came to him would never hunger. How
wonderful this promise. Strangely, however, I have found the more I dine with him
the more hungry to be fed I become. We say grace before we eat our meals.
Today grace has a new meaning for me. While it is my physical body consuming the
food, it is my spiritual body which most needs the filling. It is my spiritual
body which needs the nourishment to be healthy.
I think Christ wanted to give us an example and picture of just exactly what
we need to start the day. "Come and dine." He is inviting us to come
and meet with him to get refreshment for the day ahead. He is inviting us to
come and be filled with his spirit for meeting all of life's situations which I
face today. If you
have not set aside a time and place to meet and dine with this one who is the
source of life and strength, put him to the test today and simply open your
bible to the first chapter of John and ask Christ to come visit you there and
dine with you. Ask him to show himself to you and fill you with his spirit for
the day. Then tonight stop and meet him again and thank him for the catch of the
day which did not break your nets.
Love Ya,
Dad Dad2 and Chuck
